ENCHANTED APRIL

We are planning to stage Enchanted April in April 2012 in the Bakehouse which will be undergoing some renovating and updating to accommodate a production.
The play is set in London and Italy after the First World War. Only some characters are seeking Enchantment to brighten their lives but all are enchanted to some extent by the final curtain.
We will hold an information night on Tuesday 17th January at 7.30pm followed by auditions on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd.
Characters

All characters except Costanza will need to speak with an English accent. Costanza’s limited English will be with an Italian accent

Lotty Wilton
Solicitor’s wife (30-40) Lottie is lively, enthusiastic, excitable, optimistic and mischievous. She is sick of her ordered existence and is longing for enchantment and romance in her life.

Mellersh Wilton
Solicitor (mid 30’s to mid 40’s). He is self-important, neat, a little pompous at times, snobbish, always looking for business opportunities. He is used to being attended to by Lottie but becomes humbled later in the play.

Rose Arnott
Writer’s wife (mid 30’3 to mid 40’s). Rose is religious, pious, self-conscious and nervy. She is attractive with a likeness to the Madonna. She and Frederick lost a child 2 years ago and she has ignored her own feelings until now.

Frederick Arnott
Writer (35 – 50). His pen name is Florian Ayers and is a successful writer of salacious novels. He is lively, jokey and fun. He sings “Ma He’s Making Eyes at Me”. He has been a party pal of Lady Caroline.

Lady Caroline Bramble
Socialite (20’s) Caroline is slimmish, wears scanty clothes, drinks, smokes and parties. She is in need of an escape “to think”, to give impression of solitary seclusion. She is widowed but no-one knows. She speaks Italian.

Mrs Graves
Matron (60’s-70’s). Mrs Graves has no children. She is starchy, proper, likes things her way, is bossy, demanding, aloof and penny pinching.

Antony Wilding
Artist (20’s). Antony inherited the castle “San Salvadore” where the ladies go to holiday. He has had war fatigue. He is a charmer and has a temporary infatuation with Rose.

Costanza
Italian housekeeper of the castle (late 50’s-late 60’s).
Costanza speaks Italian. She is helpful and likeable to all who are polite. She sees Mrs Graves as a challenge. She has a strong Latin temperament.
