A Hive Of Activity
July is the month of the STAG Working Bee weekends. To be held on Sunday July 9 and Sunday July 16, all members are called upon to help out for as much time as they can spare to help the Bakehouse look it's brighest, while clearing out the 'old' Bakehouse to ensure that STAG shows can make use of two rehearsal spaces.

Please mark that dates in your diary now and rock up to the Bakehouse between 10am and 5pm on either Sunday to lend your hand.

An added bonus for members involved with schools and school productions. Old sets and props that are cleared at the first Sunday's Working Bee will be available for free from 3pm on the second Sunday - first in best dressed. Now isn't that a reason to clean out our space?

Hmm...what tree can I hack down this time?

Green Shiny Stories - A Theatrical Bonanza!
While the majority of Australia watches the World Cup at ungodly hours, a few busy STAG-ers have been working to ensure that your theatrical whistle is whetted and you don't go through horrible withdrawal symptoms.

Here's what exciting treats we have in store:

Our August Green Room will be held at The Bakehouse on August 5. We can now reveal that Krystal Ryan will direct an excerpt from "The Babe", Matt La Porta will direct the one act play, "The Drag Factor" and Andrew Morom will lend his hand to "3 Chairs". Rehearsals for these performaces have begun and I'm sure all supporters will be there en masse in August.

The biologically wiped clean, new improved formula of the orginal cast and crew of John Lewis' knockout smash Some Shiny Days - The Return Season gears up for a popular demand season in September. Word has it that the cast are all very excited about this special re-staging.

And if that's not enough, Sing Me A Story takes a leap off the page as November approaches and STAG's end of year show format makes a welcome return to Eastbank. July 4 is the Information Night for this little gem from the mind of musical powerhouse Tricia Sargant and if you visit the Sing Me A Story page you can even book in for an audition.

Watch out as the STAG rollercoaster powers along and keep an eye out for all the goss about our 2007 season.

Theatrical Candy
The producers of Short & Sweet, Australia's - and the world's - biggest short play festival have announced entries are open for the 2007 season.

And the newest addition to the amazing theatrical success story is a short musical theatre section - Short, Sweet & Song!

To be coordinated by music theatre and cabaret star (and senior NIDA teacher) Avigail Herman, the new strand of the festival will create a showcase for the wealth of writers, composers and singer-actors in Sydney and beyond.

The week-long stream will take place in the middle of the summer festival from February 6.

Entries could include Broadway-style musicals, rock operas, film adaptations, bio musicals, operettas, singing satires, comedies or dramas - even multi-media and avant-garde contemporary pieces. A band of musicians will be provided for each entry. Rule number one, though - as for all Short and Sweet plays - is that each must run 10 minutes or less!

Now in its 6th year, the Short and Sweet phenomenon has grown from humble beginnings as a local Sydney fringe theatre programme to a national - and now international - festival. Sydney (January-February) and Melbourne (November) festivals showcase up to 80 plays at a time involving hundreds of actors, writers, directors and theatre technicians and creative artists. Shorter and Sweeter (the best of version) has filled the Sydney Opera House Studio and Arts Centre and is shortly to tour to the Singapore Arts Festival. Fast and Fresh - the high school version - just completed a sell out season at the Riverside Theatre and further spin-offs (including Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane) beckon.

Created by Mark Cleary, Artistic Director of the Newtown Theatre, Short & Sweet is flourishing as a boisterous and energetic festival that annually draws over 1200 scripts submitted from around the world. As a platform for new writers, local actors and directors it has no equal!

Writers, composers, actors, musicians, directors and other performing artists can register their interest and find more information at Short & Sweet.

A Trip To The Library
Shepparton Theatre Arts Group in association with the G.V Regional Library are combining efforts to bring you pleasantries on a Sunday afternoon.

Hike on down to the library in Marungi St on Sunday June 18 and see a little bit of theatre in it's formative stages as STAG presents various readings from two theatrical works.

Members of STAG will read exerpts from two Welsh playwrights - Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas and John Lewis' Some Shiny Days. With the vocal talents of members such as Fiona Kennan, Dick Hutchinson, Reg Dickinson and Dale Roberts you are assured of a great theatrical session.

In short - G.V Regional Library, June 18, 11am - 1pm. Be there. Or be a bookworm.
