Space. The Farndale Frontier
Now that everyone has packed away their legwarmers and Fame: The Musical is becoming a distant memory, it's time to turn your attention to the red planet as the delightful dears from the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society gear up to bring you another hit play in a way only they can.

STAG have performed plays thanks to the Dramatic Guild before, the most recent in 1998 when Dale Roberts directed The Haunted Through Lounge And Recessed Dining Nook At Farndale Castle. This year, fresh from his stint as director of Fame: The Musical, Aaron-David Palmer is lending his hand to the Farndale series, and the result is They Came From Mars And Landed Outside The Farndale Church Hall Just In Time For The Townswomen's Guild's Coffee Morning. What a mouthful.

The cast includes four females and one male and the show itself will be staged in September 2007, with auditions occuring on June 16 and 17.

An Information Night will be held for anyone wanting to become involved with They Came From Mars And Landed Outside The Farndale Church Hall Just In Time For The Townswomen's Guild's Coffee Morning on Thursday June 7 at STAG's rehearsal venue, The Bakehouse commencing at 7.30pm.

Famous Fun
Rehearsals for Shepparton Theatre Arts Group's big 2007 production of Fame: The Musical are now in top gear as opening night approaches on May 18. Director Aaron-David Palmer said the 35-strong cast and backstage crew had been busy with three rehearsals a week for more than three months to bring the dancing and singing show to the stage.

"This is really an ensemble show, so everyone has had to be there for every rehearsal," Mr Palmer said.

Fame: The Musical is based on the 1980 film by Alan Parker and subsequent longrunning TV series.

Set during the last years of New York City's celebrated High School for the Performing Arts during the early 1980s, it is the bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of gruelling artistic and academic work.

It contains huge dance numbers and big show-stopping songs such as Let's Play A Love Scene and, of course, Fame.

Mr Palmer said audiences could expect a high-energy show.

"It's an actionpacked production - it's going to be full-on right from the start," he said.

Fame: The Musical opens at WestSide Performing Arts Centre on May 18. Performance continues on May 19, followed by four more from May 23 to 26. Tickets are on sale at Riverlinks on 5832 9511.
