Sporty STAG
In the great tradition of the Spice Girls (?), STAG has decided to introduce a new persona to the 33 year old company - Sporty STAG. And now I begin to type what is the strangest blog I think I've had to type.

STAG have a sporting team and they are in a Grand Final.

No, you're not seeing things. It's true. Perhaps the Apocalypse is upon us, who knows, but it is the truth.

And the Grand Final is being played this Monday night. So come along and support some funny thespians as they try to become the Grand Champions of Indoor Netball.

  • Monday March 31, 2008
  • 7.20pm
  • McGill Street, Shepparton (off New Dookie Rd)

Why not go all out and come dressed as a cheerleader, that way our team will be surely encouraged to bring it on.

Shepparton Theatre Arts Group Inc. would like to announce that it has a new Committee of Management for the 2008-2009 season, following it's Annual General Meeting which was held on March 26.

Returning to the roles they held in the year just passed, Jo Chambers returns for a second term as President, Joyce Baker-Dawber and Stephen Miller will act as Vice Presidents and Aaron-David Palmer continues his run as Secretary.

Liz Zito, Nicole Sleeth and Helen Janke continue to serve on committee as they complete the second year of their term. Returning to the committee is Steve Watts who will take up a new role as Treasurer.

We are also delighted to welcome Carmen Allemand and Karen Kuehnapfel as first time committee members of STAG. We look forward to their eagerness and enthusiastic input to the company.

Shepparton Theatre Arts Group Inc. would like to thank retiring committee members, David Muir and Laurie Hucker for their contribution. David had served on committee for 6 years, and is soon to jet-set to Europe for a long long holiday. Laurie had been the group's Treasurer for the past 16 years, giving the finances of the company a guiding hand through many different phases, both prosperous and not.

Queen Bee And The Wannabes?
STAG members are invited to assist with a Working Bee that is being held next Sunday at the Bakehouse.

The purpose of the Working Bee will be to:

  • remove the deadly bindi eyes
  • general clean up of the yard
  • cleaning of facilities
  • setting up the two sheds for rehearsal and set building for Oliver!

Rehearsals for Oliver! commence on April 6, so it is imperative that we get the Bakehouse into order before it is descended upon by the Dickensian characters who will literally pick the pockets out of the place.

If you can be of assistance on the day, please give Jo Chambers a call on 0402 452 064 so we can ascertain numbers for catering. (Yes, you will be fed and watered)

To recap, the details are as follows:

  • Working Bee
  • Sunday March 30
  • 10.30am onwards
  • 17 Wheeler St, Shepparton

Thanks to Katy 'soon-to-be-Hill' Somerville, have a read of the plea for Working Bee workers, it'll give you a distant hint of what we're aiming to do.

The lyric below is to be sung to the tune of Plea for a Nanny by Jane and Michael Banks from the Disney film, Mary Poppins:

"If you want this choice position, have a grumbly disposition.
Tools and gloves, no forks. (I put that bit in) Dig holes, all sorts.
You must be tough and very muscley, but we will also take in those who're 'busty'.
Can't do the hard slog? Don't want to be rude? Still come, and bring food.
You must be willing to work for peanuts, that's unless Joyce brings things to treat us.
We won't make you catch a snake or cut a lot of steel.
Just think, STAG men - sex appeal. (I put that bit in too)
Hurry STAGers, hear our plea.
Sincerely,
STAG Comm-i-i-ttee"

STAG would like to thank the playwrights, directors and performers involved with 10 In Ten during Festa Nova this past weekend.

The standard of performances, although in a Green Room situation was amazing and it was great to see such a broad range of talent from STAG involved. The plays were very well attended and recieved, with audiences sparking much conversation about the high standard of theatre they'd just viewed.

It mightn't be long before 10 In Ten is a SheppARTon Festival staple.
